Lorraine's Childhood
Lorraine told the story of her early years for her daughters: her relationship with her grandparents and parents, the places where she used to live, her schools, friends, hobbies, likes and dislikes...
"When I was a little girl, both my parents worked full time and were gone all day. Until 2nd grade, I stayed at my grandparents’ house during the week and spent the weekends with my parents. (...) When cold temperatures came, you could see your breath inside the house… My grandmother closed up some of the rooms at night to better keep the heat provided by the kitchen coal stove and the pot-belly stove in the living room. I slept with her, in her bed, under a thick feather comforter that kept us warm. We shared the bedroom until she passed when I was 18 years old."
Lanah's First Year
Alex and Karen tell their little girl about her birth, first days, milestones, and all the little things that she did as an infant.
"We were so excited and amazed, I was also somewhat surprised by you. We didn’t know if you would like your mummy or your daddy! These first hours with you felt like going out of focus into focus: when you see something from afar and as it gets closer the focus adjusts and you start to see what it was. That is what you were: a wonderful vision that became clearer and clearer as I spent more time with you."

"You started crawling quite early, at about 5 months. What surprised us is that it happened all of a sudden, within a matter of days! It was around Valentine's Day; you were chasing this card that you were fascinated with. One day, we put it on the other side of the room and you started sliding towards it, like an army crawl with your little hands moving toward the thing you wanted."
